Do you have clothes with delicate fabrics like lace, silk or wool and are not sure how to care for them properly? Or do you look longingly in the store window at all the beautiful clothes with delicate fabrics and think that they will be too hard to wash? Luckily for you washing clothes with delicate fabrics does not have to be a chore.
Care Label
The first step when looking to clean any garment is to check the care label. This is where you will find the information that is needed to correctly care for your clothing including the temperature at which you can wash your clothing and if it can be tumble dried.
Some clothes (especially those with delicate fabric like lace) are only suitable for hand washing, whereas other delicate clothes may be suitable for washing in the washing machine on a delicate cycle. Clothes made from fabrics like wool and silk need to be washed with a gentle, pH neutral cleaner and you should avoid any detergents labelled heavy duty, with enzymes or with bleach. In these circumstances, it is recommended to use the Tri Nature Gentle Laundry Liquid.
Gentle Cleaner
Tri Nature’s Gentle Laundry Liquid is a mild, liquid wash concentrate that provides a gentle cleansing to wool and delicate fabrics leaving them soft and fresh. The plant-based cleansers and emollients are gentle on fabric (and sensitive skins) and provide natural lubrication to wool and synthetic fabrics.
Being phosphate free this eco-friendly product is ideal for grey water use and septic systems. The mild pH neutral formula is not only ideal for hand washing but it is also suitable for use in both front and top loading machines.
Hand Washing Procedure for Delicates
- Fill a bucket with 8L of cold or lukewarm water.
- Add 15 ml (approximately 1 capful) of Gentle Laundry Liquid and gently mix.
- Place garment into the bucket and gently agitate it taking care not to rub or twist it.
- Rinse thoroughly with cool water.
- Use a white towel to soak up extra water and hang the garment (or lay flat) to dry.
Machine Washing Procedure for Delicates
- Place garment in a mesh laundry bag to protect it from excessive agitation and potentially snagging on other items in the machine.
- For front loading machines add 30 ml (approximately 2 capfuls) to the wash or for top loading machines add 60 ml (approximately 4 capfuls) to the wash.
- Set the washing machine to the delicate cycle.
- If necessary, use a white towel to soak up extra water and hang the garment (or lay flat) to dry.
Happy Washing!
