The Ultimate Spring Cleaning Checklist

During winter, our homes tend to stay closed up with heaters on, which promotes a multitude of indoor air pollutants inside the home including mould spores, damp, cooking emissions, candles, cleaning products and wood fired heaters. There is also a number of outdoor air pollutants which can also make their way into our homes; for example transport emissions, smoke from neighbouring wood heaters or barbecues.

Living in a space which you deem to be dirty, untidy, cluttered or messy can also affect our stress levels which in turn can affect many aspects of our life, including sleep, our relationships and our ability to focus.

It is important for good health that we give our homes a thorough clean at this time of year, and open up the windows as often as possible to let fresh air flow through our homes.

I know a big spring clean can sometimes be overwhelming and make us feel stressed, but let’s do it together and START SPRING RIGHT THIS YEAR! I promise it’s just like that morning walk or jog – once it is done you never regret doing it and I promise you will reap the benefits.

I would like to share with you my Ultimate Spring Cleaning Checklist which covers exactly what I do and what products I use to make the job as quick, easy and as stress-free as possible. By using Tri Nature’s green cleaning products to complete the checklist, I also ensure my spring clean is of no detriment to the environment and is the safest and healthiest choice myself, my family and pets.

If you find this list very long and you only want to do the essentials – just attempt steps 1 to 7.

So here it is . . .

This is my Ultimate Spring Cleaning Checklist:

1. Dust and wipe down all surfaces, walls, doors and inside cupboards and drawers.

I start one room at a time, working from the top to the bottom. I pull all items out of the cupboards and drawers and place in the middle of the room. Finish one room, put everything back in the cupboard and then move onto the next room.

My favourite product for this job is ​Tri Nature’s Supre Multi Purpose Cleaner – Eucalyptus. It wipes away any greasy contaminations quickly and easily without harsh odours or toxic residues. I always use the 1Lt Concentrate to dilute into my Complete Spray Bottle as I love that it delivers value for money, reduces my plastic use and landfill potential. It also smells fantastic – you can’t go wrong with the fresh, native scent of eucalytpus essential oil in your home. If you are new to Tri Nature products the 500ml ready-to-use option is ideal if you would just like to give the product a trial first, before investing in the concentrated version.

2. Wipe over windows, glass doors and mirrors.

Next go through every room of the house and wipe over windows, glass doors, and mirrors to remove marks & mould build-up from moisture through the cold season. Hyaline Glass & Window Cleaner is excellent for this. The unique anti-fogging quality in this eco friendly product will also help to prevent future marking on your glass.

3. Do a full bathroom clean.

My favourite product for the bathroom is Excel Bathroom Cleaner. I still use Supre Multi Purpose Cleaner – Eucalyptus for the walls and vanity, but Excel Bathroom Cleaner is ideal for your shower, bath, toilet and sink areas as it breaks down oil, soap residues, fungus, water stains, and hard water scale with ease. No hard scrubbing is required – that sounds good to me!

This naturally derived product also sanitises as it cleans to efficiently neutralise bacteria and eliminates odours at their source. Excel Bathroom Cleaner is eco friendly and contains no phosphorous compounds or strong mineral acids common in other products of its type, making it a safer and healthier choice for you and your family.

Apply and spread over area to be cleaned with a cloth. Allow to sit for 1-2 minutes on most surfaces, then lightly agitate and rinse clean. I tend to start with shower and toilet first so that the product sits on these surfaces the longest as they are generally the most contaminated. I then tackle the bath, and sink and rinse off the toilet and shower last. I then finish off by wiping over the vanity.

4. Restore sinks, basins and tapware.

The best product for this task is without-a-doubt Tri Nature’s Ultra Cream Cleanser. This naturally derived product contains soft mineral spheres that gently lift away all contaminations without scratching the surface. Restore your sinks, basins & tapware to their pristine former glory. Simply wipe over, rinse away, and bask in the beautifully fresh aroma.

5. Clean out your fridge and wipe over food prep areas.

Firstly remove all food from the refrigerator and remove all drawers and shelves. Next, spray over the inside of the fridge, drawers and shelves with Tri Nature’s Sanazone Odourless Disinfectant and wipe over with a damp, warm cloth. Not only will this disinfectant kill 99.9% of germs, but it is also boosted with a synergistic blend of Oregano, Rosemary and Thyme extracts, known for their potent, antimicrobial benefits. After the fridge is complete wipe over all food prep areas. Done!

6. Now it’s time for that dreaded oven clean-out!

It’s time to give your oven that thorough clean that it requires and I don’t know how I would survive it without my beloved Blitz Oven & BBQ Cleaner. It’s a natural and safe way to clean burnt-on mess from your oven, BBQ and cooktop surfaces with no fuss!

Burnt, baked-on food can release carcinogens as it continues to burn in your oven and can often leave an aftertaste on your food. Blitz Oven & BBQ Cleaner will remove all contaminants from your oven with no toxic chemicals or fumes. The result is a cleaner and healthier oven.

All you need to do is warm your oven for a few minutes, spray throughout the inside and close the door. Leave to sit for 15 minutes, then wipe and rinse thoroughly. For cook tops or BBQ plates, warm slightly then spread over the area. Leave it for 1-2 minutes, then agitate lightly if necessary and wipe away with a damp cloth.

7. Wash and pack away all woollens and throws.

Freshen up your winter woollens before packing away. Alpha Plus Gentle Laundy Wash will not only remove stains and freshen your clothes, but also add softness and condition back into your woollens. Don’t forget to wash all cushion covers and bedding aswell.

8. Clean upholstered furnishings, vacuum and spot clean rugs, spot clean your carpet or use for extraction cleaning.

Tri Nature’s Pro Care Carpet Cleaner is the best earth friendly and non toxic spot cleaner and professional carpet cleaner. It is formulated to tackle all types of stains – from spot stains to everyday grime. It also removes unfortunate spillages such as red wine, tea, coffee, tomato sauce, blood, pen ink, cosmetics or dirt from your carpet, fabric upholstery, soft furnishings and rugs.

This naturally derived carpet cleaner contains special deodorising molecules absorb bad and lingering odours. It effectively kills bacteria and sanitises soft surfaces – sanitising 99.9% of the stain so it gets beyond the bacteria that you see. Simply dilute 10ml of product with water in the Complete Spray Bottle or use in your extraction cleaning machine.

9. Polish all wooden furniture, laminated surfaces, vinyl and leather.

Heritage Furniture Polish is a rich and luxurious plant based polish that I use on all my timber furniture. It is also ideal for use on natural wood, laminated surfaces, vinyl, and leather. This naturally derived product prevents dirt sticking and dust settling and an added bonus is tha smudges or your little ones finger marks will easily wipe away.

Spray sparingly over area to be polished. Spread and buff with a clean cloth. Simply dry buff in between applications to restore lustre.

I have been using this product on my solid timber furniture for years. Removes smudges and finger marks and leaves the timer surface clean and shining without any stickiness. Super concentrated so very economical. A truly fabulous product to use” – Sheryl, NSW.

10. Polish all your stainless steel appliances and surfaces.

It’s time to get all your stainless steel appliances and surfaces sparkling and looking like-new again. You may have read previous blogs and videos of me raving about Illumina Stainless Steel Polish as not only does it leave the surface sparkling clean but it also leaves a rich protective lustre which prevents fingermarks and resoiling – without nasty chemicals! An absolute god-send with little boys running around touching everything throughout the house.

This naturally derived stainless steel cleaner is ideal for use on all stainless steel surfaces, including cook tops, fridges, ovens, microwaves, dishwashers, grills, ranges, range hoods and other appliances. Spray a small amount onto area to be treated. Spread evenly. Buff to a high lustre with a clean, dry cloth.

11. Wash your floors – tiles, slate, timber, stone and outdoor areas.

Second last job . . . you’re almost there! For cleaning my floors I always use Tri Nature’s Optimate Floor Cleaner. A fresh, naturally derived floor cleaning concentrate that gently lifts contaminations to leave even the most delicate floors sparkling clean.

This eco friendly and safe floor cleaner is ideal for use on sound tiles, slate, timber, linoleum, cork, stone, and outdoor areas.

For indoor areas, dilute 10mL per litre of warm/hot water into a bucket (the hotter the better). Mop over area, and rinse or mop away any residues. For outdoor areas, increase dilution to 50ml per litre of water.

12. And last but definitely not least, descale your dishwashing and laundry machines, kettle and coffee machine.

If you haven’t heard already, this is our MOST IMPORTANT rule of home cleaning and definitely the powerhouse of the entire Tri Nature range. Maxim Machine Descaler is an excellent, naturally derived maintenance product for your dishwashing and laundry machine, kettle, and coffee machine. This naturally derived descaler removes hard water scale, stains, and other contaminations quickly without dangerous and corrosive characteristics.

For laundry and dishwashing machines,add 50-100mL onto floor of machine and run through an empty normal wash and rinse cycle using hot water. For kettles, add 50ml and fill with cold water. Bring to boil and leave for 10minutes. Rinse well. And lastly, for coffee machines, use 50mL per Litre of water and use according to machine instructions.

And, you’re done!
